Dream Essentials

A small set of books can open a big journey.

Providing textbooks, school supplies, uniforms and everyday essentials so that children from disadvantaged families can keep learning — steadily and with confidence.

In planning

This program is in the planning stage. Every activity described below is intended and will be delivered through legally recognised partners once conditions are met.
01

The challenge

In many rural, mountainous and remote areas of Vietnam, the cost of a single school year — textbooks, notebooks, pens, a backpack, a uniform, a pair of shoes — remains a real burden for families with low or seasonal incomes.

Without these basic items, children may feel self-conscious, attend school irregularly or share books with classmates. After natural disasters, many families lose both their books and the space to study, and returning to school becomes harder still.

Compared with infrastructure projects, this is not a large cost. Yet it is the most immediate and recurring barrier to keeping children in school.

02

Goals & approach

  • Ensure every supported student has a full set of textbooks and basic supplies for the whole school year.
  • Reduce absenteeism and dropout caused by material hardship at partner schools.
  • Build a needs-assessment process with schools rather than distributing supplies indiscriminately.
  • Establish a rapid-response mechanism for students in areas affected by natural disasters.
03

Who we aim to serve

  • Primary and lower-secondary students from poor, near-poor or especially disadvantaged households.
  • Children in remote communes and ethnic-minority communities.
  • Students in areas recently affected by storms, floods, landslides or drought.
  • Orphaned children and children living with grandparents or elderly guardians.

Planned activities

1

Textbooks and reference books

Grade-appropriate textbook sets following the national curriculum, plus age-suitable reference books and storybooks to nurture a reading habit.

2

Backpacks and school supplies

Durable backpacks, notebooks, pens, rulers, colour sets and geometry kits — small things that build confidence in the classroom.

3

Uniforms and footwear

Uniforms, warm clothing and shoes based on real needs and local weather conditions.

4

Desks and home study corners

A study desk, a lamp and a small bookshelf for families that do not yet have a place for their children to study.

5

Needs assessment with schools

Working with homeroom teachers and school boards to build lists and priorities grounded in facts, not assumptions.

6

Back-to-school and post-disaster support

A "Back to School" drive each August–September and an emergency kit after storms and floods, once we are able to deliver responsibly.

05

Implementation plan

  1. 1

    Phase 1

    Survey & design

Survey needs at 2–3 pilot schools in Khánh Hòa and neighbouring provinces; standardise the "Dream Essentials kit" by grade level.

  2. 2

    Phase 2

    Pilot

Deliver the first support round through a legally recognised partner and gather feedback from teachers and parents.

  3. 3

    Phases 3–5

    Scale

Expand to new schools, build the post-disaster response mechanism and publish annual reports.

06

Expected outcomes

  • Supported students attend school more regularly and with more confidence.
  • Teachers have additional resources to retain students at risk of dropping out.
  • Families face less financial pressure at the start of the school year.
  • Real needs data is created, forming the basis for our other programs.
07

How to get involved

Refer a school in need

If you are a teacher or local official, tell us about classrooms that are short of basic supplies.

Volunteer to sort and pack

When the program launches we will need volunteers to assemble school-supply kits.

Partner as a business

Publishers, stationery retailers and local businesses can co-design support packages with us.

Build dreams with us

The project is taking its first steps and needs serious companions: teachers, technology specialists, businesses, schools and organisations that share our goal.
